Graduating from Adelaide University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Management, Annabel hails from a family of boys in the wine game whom dominated the kitchen table conversation during family dinners. In order to determine what all the fuss was about, Annabel joined the boutique Barossa and Adelaide Hills brand Fox Gordon as marketing manager and since then, has never looked back.
Gaining valuable marketing knowledge from 6 years in the industry, promoting a portfolio of renowned wine brands from premium wine regions within Australia including Sticks Yarra Valley, Alta Vineyards, Mojo, Rockbare and now the environmentally conscious One Planet, Annabel has a passion for wine and the industry itself which is second to none. “Having a close association with the wine industry my entire life, it was a natural progression for me to become a part of it. I’m so fortunate to combine my brand building and design capabilities along with my genuine care for the environment with One Planet, in order to introduce and build One Planet as one of the leading regional wine brands well into the future.”
Managing Director & Founder
Descending from a long line of family members with interests in the wine industry or agriculture, it seems that Sam was always destined to combine his Adelaide Uni Bachelor of Commerce degree with an agriculture venture. An extended holiday after university in Europe visiting such wine regions as Bordeaux, Burgundy & Champagne saw Sam settle on a career in the wine industry, joining the prestigious BRL Hardy in 1993, where he progressed through the ranks to become European Manager and International Business Development Manager in his 10 years with the company.
From there Sam started his own wine company, Next Generation Wines, which he sold to Xanadu in 2004 and Fox Gordon, which he still owns with his wife Ra and friend and winemaker Tash Mooney. Sam is now Managing Director of Brand New Vintage Limited, the owner and developer of One Planet.
Sam believed that there must be an alternative to glass that would still deliver top quality wines in a convenient, more efficient and environmentally sustainable package. Sam is also clear on the philosophy that ‘every one can make a difference’, whether that be people or packaging and from this the ‘One Planet’ WinePak was born. After 3 years or research and development ‘One Planet’ finally hit the market in December 2009.
With the Sauvignon Blanc fruit being grown on Sam & Rachel’s’ estate grown vineyard, namely Anniversary Hill at Kuitpo in the Southern Adelaide Hills they are able to ensure the best result possible for the environment and consumer by managing the fruit all the way through to the WinePak. “This is a truly remarkable package that allows all consumers to enjoy their favourite premium wines in environmentally sensitive package, combined with incredible convenience and efficiency. It may not replace glass and that is not the point – the point is to provide an alternative to glass that does not affect the daily enjoyment of wine, whilst making as small a carbon footprint as possible. One Planet and the WinePak achieve this and more,” Sam enthused. “Go on, try it, I bet you won’t be disappointed and remember ‘everyone can make a difference.’
Master of Wine & Ambassador
Phil has spent over 25 years working in the wine industry around the world with a career involving all facets of wine & in 1996 he obtained the holy grail of the industry, a Masters of Wine (MW) of which there are only 279 members globally. He was recruited by Tesco Stores, the UK's No.1 retailer & was the driving force behind introducing screwcaps into the UK market. Now calling South Australia home, Phil's carbon neutral wine consulting business has taken him to the four corners of the planet, he is a regular judge at National and International wine shows, a guest lecturer at Adelaide University & a mentor to current MW students.
A 'green warrior' at heart, when approached by Sam Atkins to consult on the One Planet venture, Phil jumped at the chance to be involved by putting his hand up to become the brands ambassador. "Tetra Pak is the most exciting alternative pack format with an overall carbon footprint lower then both PET & glass. I whole heartedly believe that One Planet enables everyone to make a difference, whilst drinking great wine along the way."
THE ONE PLANET STORY
In 2000, Sam atkins launched the one planet brand and one planet cellar door, with inaugural vintages hailing from the cool climate Adelaide hills and maritime mclaren vale.
The instant success of that first offering was the beginning of something special, and in the years that have followed the one planet wine brand has become an iconic part of the australian and international wine landscape, synonymous with effortless luxury and global appeal with a reputation for quality.
The one planet brand continues to evolve with thrilling developments in the pipe line for collections which are soon to be revealed.
